I You know you’re right, Say I’m wrong Since COVID began, sing the same old song. II You talk about truth, Full of Lies Facts and science in front of your eyes. Verse 1 Walking down the road alone, I saw a country lost at home A mission of hope carried me forth, I lived each day for all it was worth A president came while I was away, I planned to counter him every day Hate and division won’t carry us forth, come together and be a force Chorus: I wish I had just one more day, I know I had so much more to say. I love my dad, I love my mom. I’ll miss my friends forever yon Verse 2 My family back home sent me their love, I wished I got back to give them a hug We all know what we think we know, but can we strive for a greater hope Friends I lost along the way, but still I walked another day Saving earth was what it’s about, some of the haters would jump and shout Chorus: I wish I had just one more day, I know I had so much more to say. I love my dad, I love my mom. I’ll miss my friends forever yon Verse 3 One hundred days of joy and pain, my feet moved ‘cross the fruited plain A dirty hippy or something more, why can’t they see my higher road My face and words live on today, I often wonder what people say I gave it all held nothing back, but in the end was it done in vain Chorus: I wish I had just one more day, I know I had so much more to say. I love my dad, I love my mom. I’ll miss my friends forever yon [Instrumental break] Verse 4 Walking down the road alone, I saw a country lost at home A mission of hope carried me forth, I lived each day for all it was worth My family back home sent me their love, I wish I got back to give them a hug We all know what we know, but can we strive for a greater scope Chorus: If I had just one more day, I often wonder what I’d say It hurts my dad, it hurts my mom. ‘Cause now I’m gone

about

I’ve been writing songs for about 16 months. I started with “Walking Down the Road,” a paean to my son, Mark, killed tragically in 2017. Since then, I’ve written 20 of them. Some are good, a few really good, and I’m sure there are a few throw-aways. I felt like these six were a great starting place to gather something more than a song posted, hit-or-miss. The first three songs, “Living in This World,” “Divide and Conquer,” and “Happier Days” are part of what I call The Trilogy: they cross terrain beginning with the false narrative of those on the left and their need to virtue signal, as well as shut down any discussion they don’t like, while they “talk about love and justice and all those empty things,” and embracing the most bald-faced of lies. Divide and conquer is as old as time itself, as those in charge have always known that divided, we fall. “Happier Days” speaks to finding a way back to community again, or something like that. And of course, one always needs to have an anti-Trump song in your back pocket, and the Neil Young-ish “National Disgrace” fits the bill on that one.

Like I did with my writing by starting a blog to “ship” my stuff and get it out to a few readers, I see Bandcamp as something akin to that—putting some stuff out there as it makes its way towards some sort of finish line.

I’ve seen everyone of these songs evolve and become something more than they were when I scratched them out longhand, on a legal pad, often simply beginning with a chord progression I came up with.

If you aren’t familiar with lo-fi, then you might be put-off that my music doesn’t sound like the over-produced shit served to the masses by our corporate overseers as “art.” Taylor Swift is not who I’m trying to sound like, or maybe a more apt crosshair could be Frankie Ocean.

These songs weren’t recorded at a high-end studio and mastered by masterer-to-the-stars, Bob Ludwig. That’s not even what I was thinking about or would want. They were recorded in my basement, aka, The Bunker, on my laptop, run through open source software. My total investment in my gear doesn’t even come close to the guitars played by even the most popular indie stars these days. I often dream of what I might sound like with a full band playing behind me rather than a drum track grabbed from the interwebs. Maybe a power trio, or a four-piece with some guitar god soloing over me. Ah, dreams.

I think what I put out with this EP hearkens back to stuff I was into in the early to mid-1990s; often recorded in bedrooms on Tascam four-tracks rather than a 21st century laptop. My music tilts back toward F.M. Cornog, early Guided by Voices and at times, channels Dave Doughman from Swearing at Motorists (maybe their “This Flag Signals Goodbye). If you listen closely, you might catch a riff or progression from Big Star, or a hint of Teenage Fanclub, and some Neil Young.

Think of these songs as the start of something. I’m not sure where it’s all going, but it’s better than where it all started: death, and grief, and loss.—JBMe

Thanks to: Mary Baumer❤️, all the great memories you left us with, Mark (RIP)❤️, Jeff at Sweetwater Music, and all those good folks at open mics over the summer of 2020: you offered me a slot to play a few songs, even when I wasn't quite ready to roll a new one out the door. And that small coterie of people who opted to get off the couch and catch me live (you know who you are). This one’s dedicated to loved ones lost.
